Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Ping collects and why. We never sell your personal data.
Warning: You must be 18 or older to use Ping. You will be kicked out of the app if you're under 18.
What we collect
- Account: email (for OTP login), first name, birthdate.
- Profile: 1–3 photos and a short bio.
- Optional identity: self-described gender and sexual orientation, only if you choose to add them. These are sensitive — they're optional, never sold or used for ads, and you can edit or clear them anytime in Settings.
- Precise location while you are active, to power the radar. We show others a fuzzed location (offset 100–200m), never your exact coordinates — except via a "Share my Ping" link you create and send to a contact you choose.
- Usage: pings, matches, and messages you send.
Advertising (free tier)
The free tier shows ads via Google AdMob, a third-party ad-serving SDK. AdMob may collect device advertising identifiers — the IDFA on iOS (only if you allow tracking via the App Tracking Transparency prompt) and the Android advertising ID — to serve and measure ads. See Google's Privacy Policy. Ping+ removes ads entirely.
Location retention
We delete precise location history older than 30 days. Aggregated, fuzzed activity data is kept to understand where to launch next.
Your rights
You can download all your data ("Download my data" in Settings) and delete your account at any time, which erases your data (reports filed against accounts are retained in anonymized form for safety).
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA:
- Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell.
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request the deletion of your personal information collected or maintained by us.
- Right to Opt-Out: You have the right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Note: Ping does not sell or share your personal information.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise these rights, please contact us or delete your account inside Settings.
Third parties
We use Supabase (database/auth/storage), Google Maps, Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Expo (push), and Google AdMob (ads). Each processes data only to provide its service.
